IoT based Data Sensing System for AutoGrow, an Autonomous greenhouse System for Precision Agriculture

Project Principal Investigator(s) : Dr. Ramesh kestur

  • Controlled environment agriculture (CEA): It encompasses a variety of systems that take a technology-based approach to farming.  A CEA system includes automated Greenhouse control of climatic conditions, irrigation, and nutrient supply to plants.
  • IoT and AI augers well to realize an automated greenhouse system.
  • The Greenhouse and IoT/AI technology can provide substantial gains in increasing the efficiency of crop production and at the same time optimizing the use of resources and hence reducing costs.
  • We propose a CEA system: AutoGrow, a system of automated greenhouse control that seamlessly integrates the biological food production greenhouse with an IoT/AI-based system for automated control.

We successfully realized a data sensing and logging system for Auto-Grow. The next phase of the project includes developing an Machine Learning model using Reinforcement Learning paradgim for tuning nutrient supply based on the crop. The system is designed to be modular, allowing for deployment in a diverse combination of crops. This project is done in colaboration with the Dept.of Biotechnology from IIHR, Bangalore. Their wick irrigation technology incorporated to our system.
